Most heavy vehicles on the road today are equipped with event data recorders (EDRs), called electronic control modules (ECMs). Every engine manufacturer has a particular software package required to image the data that is contained on the ECM. Unlike passenger vehicles, ECMs contain highly volatile data that can be erased or overwritten if not handled properly by a qualified forensic specialist. We are fully equipped to image the data on most heavy vehicles including: Detroit Diesel, Mercedes Benz, Cummins, Caterpillar, Volvo, International, Bendix, and Meritor.
If a heavy vehicle is severely damaged and can no longer receive proper voltage, the ECM can be removed and the data can be imaged using a direct to module harness. We have the capabilities to image these ECMs directly from the following manufacturers: Detroit Diesel, Mercedes Benz, Cummins, and Caterpillar.
When it comes to ECM data, time is of the essence. There is great potential in overwriting data if vehicles are placed back in service. Contact us to quickly and accurately preserve any data that may be contained in an ECM to avoid evidence spoliation.
Please download our free “BlackboxEDR” app for a full list of heavy vehicles that may contain accident related data.
* All Mack's and Volvo's (2010 or newer) have proprietary software that is not available to the public. They can only be imaged by one of the four designated service providers in North America. Please contact us for more information.
